The Denver Public Art Program is one of the most respected in the country, with a collection of nearly 350 pieces, found along streets, over bridges, in and around buildings old and new. See a segment of this coveted work on foot, bike, and new for 2012 – by scooter, on a FREE 2012 Denver Public Art Tour.

WALKING TOURS
14th Street Public Art Tour - Sunday, July 15, 10am
This tour will stroll along the newly improved 14th Street, and highlights some of Denver’s most iconic artwork including “I See What You Mean,” aka The Big Blue Bear. Other features include artwork within the Denver Performing Arts Complex and a sneak peak at Denver’s newest public artwork by Walczak and Heiss.

The tour will be lead by Mandy Renaud, Public Art Coordinator and will cover about a half mile. The tour meets at the Wellington E. Webb building plaza on 14th & Colfax, and will conclude at the Performing Arts Complex on 14th and Curtis.

Colorado Convention Center Public Art Tour - Saturday, August 18, 10am
Why is that escalator laughing at me?  And, what with that big blue bear peering through the window?  Get the answers, plus see the region’s 300-million-year history unfold in a short 100-foot walk on this fun and educational tour of public artworks in the Colorado Convention Center.

The tour will be led Public Art Administrator, Rudi Cerri and will meet outside the Convention Center on 14th St. and California St., next to the Big Blue Bear.

Denver Civic Center Public Art and History Tours - Monthly
The Denver Civic Center tour will focus on the over 100-year history of Denver’s public art and architecture.  This tour provides an incredible snapshot of Denver’s diverse artistic and architectural styles in a single, concentrated area.  From Alexander Proctor’s bronze Bronco Buster to Beverly Pepper’s Denver Monoliths, and the Neoclassical Capitol to the Beaux-Arts Civic Center Park and Postmodern Denver Public Library, this tour is sure to inspire. 

The tour will be led by local docent, Leon Krier and will meet at the Sea Lion Fountain at the north end of Civic Center on the Colfax side of the park.

BIKE TOURS
Downtown Denver Public Art Bicycle Tours, June & September
This popular bicycle tour return in 2012 and will feature some of the more iconic and controversial pieces around town, such as “National Velvet,” plus pieces at the Denver Skate Park, Commons Park, Colorado Convention Center and Civic Center Park. 

The tour will be led Public Art Administrator, Rudi Cerri and will meet at the pavilion across from the parking lot at City of Cuernavaca Park, located at 20th St. & Platte St.

*All participants will be required to wear appropriate safety gear, including a helmet.  Participants must sign a release form and will need to provide their own bike, water, food and repair kits.  The tour will last approximately two hours, with a distance of almost three miles, and make use of available bike routes and paths. 

Stapleton Public Art Bicycle Tour - Saturday, August 11, 2pm
Take a bike tour of Stapleton’s neighborhoods as we visit public art sites including the new Sam Gary Branch Library. 

The tour will be led by Barbara Neal, Stapleton Public Art Consultant and will meet at the Founders Fountain Plaza in the Quebec Town Center at East 29th Ave. and Roslyn St. Tour is limited to 15 cyclists.

*All participants will be required to wear appropriate safety gear, including a helmet.  Participants must sign a release form and will need to provide their own bike, water, food and repair kits.  The tour will last approximately two hours, with a distance of almost three miles, and make use of available bike routes and paths. 

NEW! SCOOTER TOUR
Denver Public Art & Parks Scooter Tour - Sunday, September 9, 9am
New for 2012, the inaugural Public Art & Parks Scooter Tour! The tour will meander throughout the city, stopping at some of Denver’s best parks to view and discuss the art and history of the area with a rest stop and picnic in the park.
 
The tour will be let by Public Art Administrator, Rudi Cerri and Landscape Architect and City Park Planner, Britta Herwig and will meet at the City of Cuernavaca Park’s parking lot, located at 20th & Platte Streets. Tour is limited to 15 cyclists.

*The tour will be approximately two and half hours. All participants will be required to wear appropriate safety gear, including a helmet.  Participants must sign a release form and will need to provide their own scooter, water, food and repair kits.
