RED ROCKS SETS NEW RECORDS

Red Rocks Amphitheatre closed out the 2012 Ram Trucks  Summer Concert Season on Sunday, October 15 with Run the Rocks, and for the third year in a row, marked an all-time attendance and number of events record for the world-class venue.

Total attendance for the 2012 season surpassed last year’s record high in August, with final numbers surpassing expectations.

2012
Number of Events* = 105 (ALL-TIME RECORD)

Total Attendance = 690,000 (ALL-TIME RECORD) 2011 was the previous high

Number of Sold out Shows = 45

2011
Number of Events* = 87 (Record to date in 2011)

Total Attendance = 593,919 (Record to date in 2011) 2010 was the previous high

Number of Sold out Shows = 31

2012 also marked the first-ever winter show at Red Rocks with Icelantic Winter on the Rocks with Atmosphere & Common, a sold out concert in January.

*Events include music concerts, Film on the Rocks, and other events such as Run the Rocks, graduations and the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.

“The lure of Red Rocks continues for fans and artists alike, and we have an incredible staff that works endlessly to pull off back-to-back shows of all sizes, in all types of weather, for the fans’ ultimate experience,” said Tad Bowman, Red Rocks Venue Manager for Arts & Venues Denver. “With the importance of national tours for bands, and the volume of date requests already in place, we anticipate 2013 to be another strong year at Red Rocks.”

In 1911, then-super star Mary Garden proclaimed, “Never in any opera house, the world over, have I found more perfect acoustic properties than those under Creation Rock in the natural auditorium at Mount Morrison. I predict that someday twenty thousand people will assemble there to listen to the world’s greatest masterpieces.” No doubt many artists who graced this stage this summer including, Florence & the Machine, Jack White, Bon Iver and staples like Michael Franti, Further and Big Head Todd, feel fortunate to be considered in that talented group.

Not only did Red Rocks host another blockbuster season, a number of other special highlights took place among the monoliths:

* Red Rocks hosted its first winter event in January, “Winter on the Rocks,” a sold out show

* CBS This Morning” filmed a national segment for Love, Hope, Strength

* CBS dating show “3” filmed a dream date at the amphitheatre

* Mumford & Sons filmed a video to their hit, “I Will Wait,” on August 28-29

* Peter Gabriel recorded a bootleg performance on September 30
