The Next Stage NOW

What is The Next Stage NOW?

On March 10, 2016, Mayor Michael Hancock unveiled The Next Stage Vision Plan for the Denver Performing Arts Complex. This plan aims to re-energize the Arts Complex with new and updated venues, more public space and diverse and accessible programming. While construction will not begin immediately, The Next Stage NOW aims to start this exciting transformation with public performances, programming and placemaking initiatives today.

Next Stage Collaborative

Next Stage Collaborative is an interactive gallery presented by the University of Colorado Denver and Denver Arts & Venues. This space was recently reimagined from a vacant storefront into a flexible modern gallery by students from CU Denver’s College of Architecture and Planning’s design/build program.

The exhibition currently on view was produced by students and faculty from CU Denver’s College of Arts & Media digital design program. Installations featured include “How the Heart Works,” which uses virtual reality headsets to show the inner workings of the heart using 3D modeling, enhanced by computer-generated sounds, images and graphics.

Also on view are augmented reality artworks. While virtual reality projects use headsets and headphones to create immersive environments, augmented reality projects ask viewers to enhance two dimensional posters by viewing them through smartphones and tablets loaded with special software. These installations bring the posters to life with animation.

We invite you to explore this immersive gallery experience. This is a hands-on installation - please do not be shy to use the technology. Student docents are available to help.

Hours:

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
