Event Details
This community celebration at Auraria Library (1100 Lawrence St.) marks the opening of the "I am Auraria" Exhibition, created through a Museum of Memory collaboration between displaced Aurarians, their descendants, History Colorado, and partners.
Fifty years ago, hundreds of Auraria residents were displaced to make way for the shared higher education campus. This exhibition shares their stories of the neighborhood before, during, and after urban renewal. Over the course of fourteen months, more than 100 community members gathered to remember and to reflect on the place they once called home. Oral histories, photos, materials and memories will be on display, along with research resources for those directly connected to the Auraria neighborhood and its legacy.
Special thanks to the Auraria Library, University of Colorado at Denver, Metropolitan State University, Community College of Denver, Auraria Higher Education Center, Historic Denver, Denver Arts & Venues, and partners.
The reception is free, but registration is required. Parking is available in nearby surface parking lots. Guests will receive a parking code after registering.
This event is supported by Denver Arts & Venues.
