Join us at Reimagining Denver's Chinatown Block Party- Historic Markers & Mural Reveal, on Saturday, August 12 from 3:00-7:30 p.m. at Denver's Fire Station 4. We will be celebrating the completion of Nalye Lor's beautiful mural depicting the past, present, and future of Chinatown; and the installation of our historic markers across downtown Denver that share the Chinatown story.
Come learn about our history and celebrate Asian American resilience! The event will include food, music, performances, fire station tours, and fun activities. You will also get an opportunity to vote on the name of the mural.
In the late 1800s, Denver was home to a thriving and vibrant Chinatown. It no longer exists due to a series of racist factors including the Anti-Chinese race riot of 1880 in Denver, the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, and general xenophobia and hatred. Our work strives to unearth and celebrate local forgotten AAPI histories, bringing these forgotten narratives into our present.
This mural was supported by Denver Arts & Venues.
